Out
and About
Pont Aven
(approx 3 miles)
Pont
Aven is only 5 minutes drive and one of the most picturesque places in France.
It was made famous by the painter Gauguin who set up a painting school here. It
is set on the river Aven and full of galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants, and
riverside eating places. You can take a boat ride on the river or spend time in
the many art galleries and museums. It is also famous for its biscuits!
The
Hotel Des Mimosas serves
the most wonderful seafood platter which you can enjoy as you watch the boats come
in and out (the fillet steak is worth a mention too).

Concarneau
The medieval town of Concarneau (only 10mins away by car)
is one of the most photographed places in Brittany. The islandof ‘Ville
Close’ in the harbour gets most of the attention and as you walk round its
14th century ramparts you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. Equally
amazing is the fact that such a small place produces most of the tuna in France,
visit the Musée de la Pêche to find out more.
Quimper
With the River Odet meandering peacefully through its
cobbled streets and flower festooned gardens, Quimper’s old town quarter is a
delight. You’ll find excellent shopping, particularly on Rue Kéréon, and
weekly markets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Quimper is also justifiably famous for the fine and distinctive ceramics it has
been producing since the late 17th century, and a museum dedicated to the
history of this art is well worth a visit.
